Hair Wellness for Women in Midlife

Your hair is more than what you see in the mirror - it's very much a part of our identify and our confidence. As we move through midlife, changes in hormones, nutrition, stress, scalp health, texture and density can influence the way our hair looks, feels and behaves.

My approach to hair wellness is about understanding those changes, identifying the underlying contributing factors to those changes, making informed choices, and finding practical ways to help you feel confident with your hair — without losing sight of the beauty and individuality that make it yours.

Beauty Inside & Out

My personal evolution as a hairstylist of nearly 27 years, has led me into the space of understanding the mechanisms that impact our hair and scalp, and the factors that contribute to the many changes that may occur as we mature.

Our bodies are machines that are designed to work a certain way, and regular functioning can be impacted by a variety of factors. I want to support our knowledge and understanding through the different ages and stages of life. Visit the Bespoke Hair Blog to read about various hair and scalp related topics.

Hair Wellness Evolution

Motivated by my own midlife era, and the challenges I've faced, I wanted to share what I've learned, not only to midlife women in general, but also to the hairstylists that deliver their hair care services.

There is so much information out there, it's hard to makes sense of it all and what is right for you.

I'm not a medical professional, but I care to share what I've learned and hope to deepen the conversations behind the chair, and maybe shed some insight on when to seek further medical advice. The Hairstylist's Guide to Healthy Hair & Scalp delivers important information to help guide you on your learning journey about your hair and scalp, midlife & hormonal changes, shampoo ingredients, and more.

Hair Wellness Pillars

Focusing on hair wellness, to me, is still an under-respresented niche. Although emerging, hair wellness is definitely not a "one size fits all' approach. Based on my own journey and research, that is a continuing journey - not a destination, I wanted to share what I've learned with others in hopes to shed some light on what's going on with their hair and scalp, and also be armed with accurate information should you choose to pursue support from your medical professionals. Topics of focus will be mainly focused on the following:

  • Hair changes after 40

  • Hair and scalp health

  • Hormones and hair

  • Nutrition, lifestyle and hair health

  • HTMA -> hair tissue mineral analysis

Follow along for future blog articles about these topics and more.

Advanced Aging = Advanced Beauty

As we advance in age, we should be able to appreciate the new versions of ourselves and not be afraid of it. Society tells us all the ways we can (or should) change ourselves in order to appear younger, but what if we were allowed to just love ourselves the way we are?

Self-acceptance is a pendulum that can swing from loving ourselves to desperately wanting to change all the things we don't like about our appearance. It's not about judging each woman's version of self-acceptance. Hopefully we can consider that it shouldn't be some sort of requirement to age in a way that only focuses on preserving youth.

It's completely fine if you choose the path of medical esthetic treatments, while it's also completely okay if you don't want to do those things.

My purpose here is to provide information, support understanding, build confidence, and also focus on health and nutrition as essential pillars in our health , appearance, strength, and "how well we age" as it relates to our hair and scalp health.
