Loving the Hair You Have Right Now

In this world of beauty in 2025, the standard of beauty and where we see ourselves in it, is just as daunting at times as it ever has been. While we all love trends, and changing our looks, the foundation should be set on loving yourself the way you are. Only from this place of loving yourself, can you then build on and enhance your beauty and style - because it's not about overhauling yourself, it's about creating your own, personal memorable sparkle. In case you didn't know - your sparkle has a lot more to do with your personality and the way you carry yourself, the way you engage with people, and creating meaningful connections.

Although I mainly address the "mature woman" crowd, these principles are applicable at any age and stage of life. I've noticed young ladies being unsatisfied with their hair solely because of what they see on social media. From the perspective of a hairstylist who has had experience in working with hair loss solutions, and having experience with hair loss myself, I've seen the real heartache people experience when their hair loss is severe and permanent. Not to make light of the struggles that we all have to try to love ourselves the way we are - it's harder than it should be sometimes, but we need some valuable perspective, and the strong reminder of what makes us special and beautiful - and beauty can be a million different things, and we truly shouldn't be so hard on ourselves.
Two incredibly important aspects of this journey: consistency and patience, and perhaps adding most importantly, loving the hair you have right now. Understanding our changing hair, the ingredients that can help, lifestyle habits that support healthy locks, and the potential benefits of consistent care.

Consistent Hair Care
Implementing a new hair care routine and making lifestyle adjustments takes time and effort. There will be days when you feel like you're not seeing the results you hoped for, and that's perfectly normal. It's during these times that consistency becomes your best friend. Stick with your routine as much as possible, even when you don't see immediate changes. Think of it as a long-term investment in the health of your hair. Instead of the default reaction to be frustrated or annoyed with a lack of progress, tell yourself what a great job you're doing at being consistent with your new routine, and how it's such an incredible act of self care. Talking to yourself from this place of love, instead of frustration and disappointment can be such a gamechanger.
5 ways to improve your lifestyle:
relaxation: stress can do so much harm to our bodies, particularly on a cellular level. When our bodies are constantly under stress, it starts to be problematic for hair, skin and digestion.
exercise: more accurately -> movement. Just moving our bodies by walking, stretching, and mobility exercises can add such benefit to how we feel, and also how our bodies function on a daily basis.
scalp massages: stimulating blood flow and circulation improves distribution and absorption of nutrients to your hair follicles, enabling your hair follicles to produce stronger hair strands, and in some cases, reinvigorate sluggish hair follicles.
nutrition: a basic way to think of the importance of nutrition is like gas in your car. In this case, our hair strands are formed inside our bodies, and then grow outside of our bodies. The quality of our hair is highly impacted by what we put into our bodies - so give your body the best fuel you can, and you will see an improvement in the quality of your hair strands.
products: it's not just about "professional" or "high end" products. Sometimes those products are full of chemicals that smell nice and create a nice lather, but in terms of the actual benefit to your hair and scalp - minimal benefit is often the case. Using products that are based on ingredients that are found in nature, is a great place to start. I've been using the Monat products for the past 6 months, and I'm slowly seeing the quality of my hair improving. These changes can take time, but I definitely see progress and so that makes me want to keep using them.
Give Yourself Love & Patience
Patience is equally vital. Our hair didn't change overnight, and it won't transform overnight either. Be kind to yourself and allow time for the products and lifestyle changes to work their magic. Try not to get discouraged if you don't see dramatic results in a few weeks. Celebrate the small improvements and remember that every little bit of care you give your hair is beneficial. Focus on adding new things to stack onto your new routine, just to take the focus from "how long it takes" to "let's see all the ways I can nurture this body and take such great care of it."
Why Monat?
Monat has been a leader in hair care formulation industry since 2014. Their naturally based, science backed products are very nourishing and concentrated. The Monat experience is quite different than what most people are used to - for starters, the products, when used correctly, last MUCH longer than you would think. It's completely realistic to expect your products to last 4-6 months. You will find, that less is more, and a little goes a long way. Monat also has a "Pay in Four" option with Klarna. So you can load up your cart with everything you need, and then pay it in 4 payments. As a single mom, I love that this is a thing! It really helps with being able to get myself the things that are important to me instead of just saying "no" to myself all the time.
Rejuvenate Your Strands
Monat has a product that actually blew my mind. That says a lot, since I've been using professional products for 25 years as a professional hairstylist. Monat's Rejuvenique Oil is something special. Light weight, fresh lemon scent, and truly nourishing and healing each hair strand from the inside out. The oil can be used for oil treatments on the scalp and hair strands, and also as a finishing/smoothing serum after styling. These naturally based products are made with very clean ingredients and check all the boxes on health and safety standards - and meet the European standard also (which is a higher standard than North America).
Hair Care Starts with Love
It's so easy to get caught up in wanting our hair to be different – thicker, longer, less gray. But being critical of ourselves and our always wanting to change our appearance doesn't serve us in any way. Appreciate the hair you have right now and focus on nurturing it to be the healthiest it can be at this stage of your life.
Find joy in the small acts of self-care. And remember, you are beautiful and worthy, no matter what your hair looks like on any given day. Let's be gentle with ourselves and our hair, and enjoy the journey.
